And what could be more refreshing than a Mai Tai on June
30th? Truth be told, I didn't actually create this drink - I researched a bunch
of recipes and found this Wiki version. I chose this one because the
ingredients are readily available. If you feel like branching out, I've given
you two more drink options to dabble with. Have fun!
Version One:
2 ounces aged rum
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice, juiced lime half
reserved
1/2 ounce orange curaƧao
1/4 ounce rock candy syrup (sold with the alcoholic
beverages)
1/4 ounce orgeat (sweet syrup made with almonds and sugar –
also sold with the alcoholic beverages)
1 cup crushed ice
1 sprig mint, for garnish
Version Two -
Unstirred:
1 ounce light rum
1/2 oz creme de almond
1/2 oz triple sec
Sweet and sour mix
Pineapple juice
1/2 ounce dark rum
Pour light rum, creme de almond and triple sec, in order,
into a glass. Almost fill with equal parts sweet and sour mix and pineapple
juice. Add dark rum, a large straw, and serve unstirred.
Version Three:
2 ounces light rum
1 ounce triple sec
1 teaspoon powdered sugar
1 tablespoon almond syrup, orgeat or 1 drop almond extract
1 tablespoon grenadine
1 tablespoon lime juice
Maraschino cherry for garnish
Pineapple wedge for garnish
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake
well.
Strain into large glass half-filled with fresh, crushed ice.
Garnish with a maraschino cherry and a pineapple wedge.
