Halloween Cheese Bites!

I love making creepy food for Halloween - the spookier the better! I've written recipes for Witch Hair (angel hair tossed with pesto), Ghoulish Twice Baked Potatoes (with faces), Screaming Strawberries (dipped in white chocolate with dark chocolate facial features), so I decided to try something different. Appetizers you can serve friends and family before heading out for candy. What I love is that this isn't really a "recipe". It's simply a start - you can customize the treat any way you want.

Here's what to do:
Start with carrot rounds, pumpernickel squares or small toast squares. Then, shape your favorite cheese into balls - I like herbed goat cheese and vegetable cream cheese (sometimes kicked up with horseradish), but you can also use spreadable cheddar (the orange color is great, especially on dark brown pumpernickel), Boursin, Aloute, or even fresh mozzarella balls. Then, slice the tops from pitted black olives to use as spider "bodies". Use the rest of the olives to make the legs. For eyes, use a toothpick to make little dots of the same cheese, cream cheese or sour cream.

Enjoy and send me your pictures!
